Asking questions during therapy is a crucial aspect of the therapeutic process. It helps build a strong therapeutic relationship and ensures that you get the most out of your sessions. Here are some questions you might consider asking your therapist:

About the Therapeutic  
Process- 

  • What therapeutic approach do you use, and how does it work?

  • Can you explain the goals and expectations of our therapy sessions?

  • How often should I expect to attend sessions, and how long is each session?

Getting to Know Your Therapist-

  • What is your background and experience in treating [specific issue]?

  • How do you approach cultural sensitivity and diversity in therapy?

  • Can you share a bit about your therapeutic style and philosophy?

Setting Goals and Progress -

  • How will we determine the goals for our therapy sessions?

  • How do we track progress, and how often will we review our goals?

  • What can I do between sessions to enhance the effectiveness of therapy?

Confidentiality and Boundaries-

  • What are the limits of confidentiality in therapy?

  • How do you handle confidentiality if I have thoughts of harming myself or others?

  • What are your policies on contacting you outside of scheduled sessions?

Costs and Logistics-

  • What are your fees, and do you offer a sliding scale or accept insurance?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

  • How can I reach you in case of an emergency?

Feedback and Open Communication-

  • How can I provide feedback on our sessions?

  • If I have concerns or feel that therapy is not working, how can we address it?

  • Can we discuss and establish a plan for the termination of therapy when the time comes?

Homework or Assignments-

  • Will there be homework or assignments between sessions, and how important are they?

  • How can I integrate what we discuss in therapy into my daily life?
